What is Acupuncture?

restoring body balanceAcupuncture is a complete health care system that has been successfully used to treat and prevent diseases for over 5000 years. By inserting acupuncture needles in the specific points on body, acupuncturist can regulate the energy movement and restore the energy balance of the body.
Acupuncture system includes:
Moxibustion is a method that stimulates acupoints with heat to improve the circulation of Qi (means the life energy) and blood.
Cupping is a therapy in which a jar is attached to the skin surface causing local congestion through the negative pressure.
Electric Stimulation through the needles opens energy pathways throughout the body.
Acupressure is an oriental-style massage based on the theory of the Channels. (Channel means the energy pathway)
Oriental Herbs and Nutrition can regulate and strengthen flows of energy throughout the body. They both can enhance the Acupuncture treatment.
Qigong exercise can build up the vital energy of the body and harmonize the body, mind and spirit, allow you to have a healthy and happy life.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

We can use the painless technique if you are afraid of the needle. Traditionally, it is normal for you to feel some soreness, heaviness, numbness, distention, tingling or electric sensation either around the needle or traveling up or down along the energy channel. These kinds of sensations usually last only a moment and then disappear.

Are the Needles Clean?

We only use disposable needles. There is no chance of infection.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture medicine believes that one’s health depends upon his Qi (life energy), when Qi is strong and harmonious, he is healthy; When Qi is weak or energy flow is stagnated, the body becomes disorder and sensitive to illness.

Acupuncture works effectively because it has the following functions: ---restore the energy balance so that the systems in the body can work together in harmony.
---increase the healing power so that the pathogenic factors in the body can be destroyed and expelled.
---promote the energy circulation so that the cells in the body can be well-nourished and the wastes of the body can be quickly eliminated.
Modern medical research also shows that Acupuncture can stimulate the brain and spine to release endorphins, which can control the pain and the addictions very effectively; Acupuncture can boost the immune system activity to fight against diseases; Acupuncture can also increase the heart’s blood supply and promote the blood circulation throughout the body.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of the treatments depends upon the duration, severity and nature of your condition as well as your own constitution. Generally speaking, you may need one to seven treatments for an acute condition; a series of seven to fifteen treatments may resolve many chronic problems; some difficult cases may require many treatments over time.

What can I expect after treatment?

You may note a spot or blood at one or more of needle site and/or a small bruise could develop. These should not be harmful. The bruise will disappear during a couple of weeks.
Most patients experience a general feeling of well-being and relaxation after the treatment, while many patients experience an immediate total or partial relief. This relief may last or some pain may return. However, with the continued treatment, the condition usually improves and long term relief occurs. Some patients may experience what is known as the “rebound-effect“, the condition seems worse after treatment, but improves within the next couple of days.
